Vicky in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is 2 hours away from Paris, by train. Really easy if you want to check out their green hills planted in vines. There you find a few good producers, making dry wines or sparkling. You could try Cox, his dry riesling is perfect as an aperitif.

After a first trip surrounded by bubbles and wide spaces, I came back for two days in the air conditioned commercial center Auchan, in the wine district. Said like this, it’s strange, and yet this department is vibrant. And there you can find my wines.

Olivier Pécheux


The place is big, there is more than 3800 different wines and a few from friends. You feel welcome and soon forget the supermarket. Olivier Pècheux, buyer for the shop since 2001, is arranging a a few piles of great Bordeaux. My wines stand proud on the barrel , it’s 10am, clients all dressed up for work start to come in. We exchange a few words, observe, give advices, orientate choices and open a few bottle for tasting, it’s fun, fascinating. I’ve met Olivier at Megavino Belgium. According to Olivier Pécheux :

Beaujolais is an unknown region, often discarded, but for for the small bunch of people who care about it, they find in them some gourmands wines that pair dazzlingly with charcuteries and many cheeses. Some very friendly wines to be shared. 

In the middle of long shelves, the most expert costumers are sometimes lost. It’s all right, when you don’t know where you are at in the wine department of Auchan Luxembourg, you ask for « Pascal ». 3 salesmen named Pascal run around the store from morning to night. Their mission : to make you happy. The 3 accomplices have big smiles and an expert look, they taught me how it works around here. The apron does a lot says the first Pascal, I must say that so does their good advice and a helping and reinsuring personality. Pascal #1 is retired from the army, he was at the Gulf war and in Kosovo, for catering logistics. Now enjoying his passion for wine by doing some animation for a few winemakers he likes.

Pour Jérémy Juanas, qui travaille aux côtés d’Olivier, c’est une autre histoire. Jérémy était sommelier dans le Lot et Garonne, chez Michel Trama. En venant chez Auchan, il est aussi revenu dans sa région et partage ses coups de coeurs de bon matin. Les clients les écoutent tous avec attention, hochent la tête, précisent leur demande et finissent par partir heureux avec une bouteille ou quelques caisses… sourire aux lèvres, ils disent aux Pascals « à bientôt ».

Les vins de Vicky sont dispersé dans les rayons, facile à reconnaître grâce à leur étiquette. Pourtant, j’ai vu un monsieur qui avait marqué le nom du Fleurie de mon père sur un bout de papier et tentait de le retrouver en vain. “On est en rupture”, j’ai du lui dire moi-même un peu déconcertée. Le clairet aussi fait un tabac, il faudra attendre quelques jours avant d’en retrouver mais revenez !

Les luxembourgeois d’adoption viennent de partout, on rencontre des familles qui préparent une fête, des hommes qui rapportent une bouteille au boulot, des dessinateurs un peu fou, des lecteurs de Miss Vicky Wine ;) .  La journée passe et on revient à Paris le soir… avec quelques emplettes et sans rechigner pour revenir le lendemain matin.

Chez Auchan Luxembourg, l’équipe aime son métier et le fait bien. On oublie vite le grand magasin si ce n’est les caddies très pratiques pour remplir sa cave de vin.
