#CABERNET DAY 2011 Reached FRANCE

I wasn’t born as a Cabernet Lover, I looked much more like a Gamay babe. But then I grew up, met with non beaujolais drinkers and learnt that there was not one Cabernet wine but a thousand of different types. From the Loire Valley to Napa going through Bordeaux, I’ve been amazed by its diversity, complexity and the different pleasures it brings.

So maybe one day too, I’ll have a Miss Vicky Wine Cabernet.

This year in France, even if overbooked with gamay, I wasn’t going to give up on #CABERNETDAY, Rick Bakas, California, is the global organizer and gave me the daily energy to go on. I arranged to leave my vineyard for one day during the harvest in Fleurie, beaujolais, and prepared to wake France up. Inform everyone of the event to make sure French wine people woulddeclare their Cabernet Love to the planet. Maybe we didn’t explose the twittosphere, but we were many to connect, learn and enjoy!

Cabernet day and all cepage days are perfect times to talk about social media, initiate winemakers to their importance in wine communication and wine sharing. I realise more and more they are angry to learn, eager to participate.

As would say my friend Arnaud Daphy on his wine and marketing blog : we love grape days because

- They are worldwide : it’s amazing to see how far and different cabernet can be, how many people love it throughout the planet.
- They are free : everyone can join as long as they are curious about the topic, never a communication campaign has been so unexpensive.
- They are interactive : it’s a place to talk, meet, exchange, connect.
- They are independent : everyone can participate, create its own event where he is.

I should shoot a special thanks to the “Vins de Loire” (Loire Valley Wines) that created meet ups all over the region and sent wines to Paris, to the famous Brane Cantenac in Margaux that gave us samples to share, to Sebastien du Petit Thouars and his wife, that came introduce their wines to the crowd. I was also sad to learn that my friend @dirpauillac endured hail on his cabernet this day and think to all the one that tried hard but couldn’t share as much as they wanted this day.

Unfortunately in France, it was the harvest time for everyone! It’s a real skill to be able to stay connected at this time of the year… where stress and business mix in a unique way.

In Paris, old and new wine friends joined the fun at the americanophile wine bar O’Chateau.

The wine I’ll remember the best is probably this Crémant de Loire (Clos de la Briderie: assemblage de chenin, chardonnay, cabernet franc et cabernet sauvigon). a white sparkling from Loire Valley, refreshing and giving you a boost to go on sipping all these cabernet reds :) , a perfect juice to celebrate !

Nice work, A-V! Great job and great recap.
It was fun to see how wine brought us all together that day (and on future days).

    Cheers
