Vicky Wine Tasting the 5th – A chic time @ Carré Parisien

Another Thursday has past with Vicky Wine and I am amazed by the difference of feel there is to each  party.
Frederic Mallier (Right) for the château de la Vieille Chapelle
Bordeaux wines and the candled lounged brought a Chic touch to the Vicky Wine Tasting that ended up looking very fancy.  If you’d close your eyes you would have heard tasters chatting softly and wine glasses clinking at a nice pace when not breaking on the floor.

This time at Carré Parisien, tasters came in very smoothly and left as disparately
so that no one ever waited to be served. « Sardines squeezed in a can » feeling was far from being the picture: it was a perfect relaxing time.

Alexandre Le Breton (Bordeaux & You) and Fabrice Leglatin (Vinsurvin)
As a bordeaux rare drinker, yet to be connoisseur, I was glad to have « Les Mois du Vin» helping me for the selection. Olivier introduced me to the Châteaux de Roquebrune (AOC Lalande de Pomerol) and the Château de Cranne (AOC Lussac). Ivo Pages, producer in Cataluna, grew up in Bordeaux and told me about the fantastic Château de la Vieille Chappelle. So that Frederic Mailler, the producer on his way to Sydney, came along to share his wine and had a tremendous success.

Fabrice Vinsurvin was also with us. Always keen to drink new wines, he is the one that introduced me to Agape (Côtes de Bordeaux) – a tiny wine production I had tasted and enjoyed during the Tupper Baraou 1.0 a few nights before, a very nice and rare Bordeaux rosé!

Merlots, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Sauvignon… red, white, rosé, dry or sweet – Everything at the Vicky Bordeaux Tasting was there to charm you – And it did charm a few!

Whispers coming to my ears were telling how much they enjoyed the wines. Le château (2006), from Château de Roquebrune  had a greater success – this merlot with a hint of cabernet sauvignon (3%) is soft on the palate and even though it is smooth and easy drinking, has an interesting complexity.  Merlot grapes give it a nice ripe cherry taste going well with its deep red color. It is a a perfect wine to drink on a nice peace of red meat, on a casual dinner.

The Merlots de Baudet from Château de la Vieille Chapelle was also on the first stage of the podium. The bottle design is fun and appealing and so is Frederic Mallier’s personality: warm, passionate and down to earth.  The merlot de Baudet wine is perfectly balanced, with nicely integrated French and American oak. A pleasure wine just as I like them. The Grand Blancs is the perfect bottle pairing and is a nice fresh Semillon – At least something different from all the Bordeaux sauvignon blancs family!

The night was not made for sweet wines, but the Château de Cranne was sipped as a desert before going home. Less sweet than a Sauterne, it is also the perfect wine for an aperitif if you have a delicate sweet tooth.

After 3 glasses and some delicatessen, the happy tasters went home with a few goodies and info on the bordeaux region. It was left there the Bordeaux and You team that stopped by for a glass of their favorite wine regions. Amateurs were also joined by the well known Fabrice Vinsurvin and the So Wine agency, here for their first Vicky Wine Tasting.

Thank you all for dropping by – Welcome back anytime!
