Vicky Wine Tasting 4 – How Parisians Loved That Languedoc

L’Oeil du Huit art gallery was welcoming Vicky Wine Tasters for the first time last Thursday. A beautiful place, showing the art works of Sara Danguis, winner of the contest organised every year by the gallery.
Sara graduated from some of the best Parisians art schools and now paints as a living. « Sara sans H » at l’œil du Huit is her first exhibition and so was probably the first time that as many people saw her work at once.
Poetic and mysterious, her works gave an interesting soft atmosphere to the party. Mix this with a platter of Nippo-Burgund canapés and good Languedoc wines and it becomes all even more classy.
I was expecting 70 persons, but about 130 walked in and the room was packed! Vicky Wine Tastings are now organised to feature Les Mois du Vin’s wines, so that some of their fans were also invited. The company features quality domaines and sell them online. You can register and receive every month selected bottles while checking expert Jacques Vivet’s tasting notes on a video. If you can’t go to the terroir, the terroir comes to you. I’m loving it!
The tasting was also featuring a Franco-Japonese cook, very talented at creating with her different cultures. This time she thought of a food and Languedoc wines pairing that worked very well. Tasters were so many that the waiting time was a bit long to get these delightful platters, but what they got could hardly be disappointing.
All of this couldn’t have taken place in the same way without our dear Languedoc and its wine. Ryan O’Connell from Love that Languedoc couldn’t say the contrary as he is one of the major figure promoting the region. This night, his wine was part of the stars with the 0’Podium: 3 Vins de Pays du Languedoc made out of the same blend but aged in different conditions: French oak, American oak and stainless steal. The Mojo was also out, to give everyone a boost.
Les Mois du Vins’ represented by Olivier de Suremain opened a set of three wines: L’Opéra, La Syrah and le blanc de Villerambert Julien, from the château Villerambert -Julien located in the heart of Minervois. This old domaine (1220) is specific by its soils that contain some marble. The wine-maker is very exigent and considers work as a main value. Marcel Julien is also very careful of the environment and wishes to preserve the lanscape, it being the castle or the vines.
This gives birth to high quality wines with an international and national renown. La Syrah (2006) was dark gold red, intense, powerful but still voluptuous with black berries and spices. It specially made my hear buzz this night and must have been Vicky Wine Tasters favourite.
Finally, the famous domaine de L’Edre (2007), Carrément Blanc (Côtes du Roussillon Villages) also was part of the night’s delights. Honey like, gold and with a long finish, it was the perfect glass to end up the party. The domaine is very young (2002) but already known as one of the best from the amateur. One to taste that won’t be forgotten.
Coming to my next tasting?
